Warm-Up 3

Warm-Up 3 is all about turning informal, spoken language into formal, written language. The prompt is the kind of thing a health-and-safety officer might say when she's on a site visit, but the written version of her recommendations will use different grammatical structures and different words … because it's written and formal, not spoken and informal.

Remember that you've only got FIVE sentences to produce - you don't need to write the entire report.

The podcast relating to this task and Send-In 3 has just been published too.

  1. In order to avoid occupational injury, the authorities in Sweden require that appropriate lifts are installed at every building site and that the workers are obligated to use them when lifting heavy items.

Using Personal Protective Equipment as approved hart hats and proper work boots, when working or visiting a building site, are compulsory according the Swedish law.
The work boots have to be reinforced in order to protect toes and soles.
Using ear protectors are compulsory when working in noisy places; helmets with build-in ear muffs and with mesh to cover the face are recommended.

Due the risk for fall accidents, all areas above the ground level have to be protected by fences and barriers.

  2. Your working practice must be in compliance with Sweden’s working safety legislation.
We require proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps for all factory workers.
Helmets or hardhats with ear protectors are compulsory.
Fences and safety barriers are also required.
Valid test certificates are needed for every working machine.

  3. According to Swedish law it is compulsory for everyone at a the construction site to wear hardhats approved by the Swedish standards.

Work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps must be worn by all construction workers at the building site.

To prevent injuries caused by the level of noise, all workers must wear ear protection.

In order to avoid accidents there must be fences and safety barriers at a proper height everywhere construction work takes place above ground level.

All vehicles used at the building site must have valid test certificates and must also be cleared by an authorized mechanic.

1.The visit from the Health and Safety Executive was alarming - unless we rectify the problems, they will close down our business.
2.The Health and Safety Executive informed us that the test certificates for our diggers and the dumper truck are no longer valid.
3.We need to organise an emergency appointment since we are not allowed to use them until they have been tested.
4.Additionally, he recommended a thorough examination from an authorised mechanic for possible hydraulic systems leaks.
5.Moreover, we need to start building above ground level in order to follow the schedule but we have to ensure that these workplaces are secured by fences and safety barriers of the proper height.

  5. Within the Swedish laws, according to the Health and Safety Executive, it is important to use proper protective equipment such as safety helmets and ear protection, to prevent personal injury.

Workers are also required to wear boots suitable for working conditions and have to incorporate reinforced soles and toecaps.

Since the contractors are working at high levels, safety measures need to be put in place in order to minimise any personal injuries.

By law, everyone have to have at least one hour break over a full work day to manage their fatigue and facilitate optimal levels during work hours.

In every building site, a first aid kid must be easily accessible and a phone available to be able to call any emergencies services if needed.

  6. The building site of the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar had a visit from the Swedish Health and Safety Executive and the changes that must be made are clarified in this report.

Firstly, approved hard hats and proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps are compulsory workwear and must be worn by the workers and any visitors at the building site. The hard hats are recommended to have built-in ear protectors and a visor to avoid injuries.

All construction over ground level has to be secured by fences and safety barriers of proper height to avoid falls.

The excavators and the dumper truck were remarked and before future usage they need to be certified and approved by a professional test center.

Yesterday, the Swedish Health and Safety Executive visited the Exhibition Centre in Kalmar to observe the working conditions at the construction site and they stated the following remarks, which must be urgently rectified.

Firstly, protective workwear is compulsory for all workers on the construction site and includes certified steel-toe boots with reinforced soles and approved safety helmets. To avoid hearing impairment due to high noise levels, a hard hat with integrated ear protectors is strongly recommended for the workers.

Secondly, the Health and Safety Inspector informed that the certificates for three of the excavators and one of the dumper trucks have expired and must therefore be renewed by an authorized mechanic at the local test station.

Finally, to minimize the risk of falling accidents the construction site must be surrounded and secured by proper safety barriers and fences.

  8. Lina Svenhag:

In Sweden there are certain rules and safety regulations which have to be followed at a worksite and as of now your worksite does not fulfill these.

At a worksite the workers have to wear proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps, without these boots workers are not allowed at the worksite.

Hardhats are mandatory at worksites which mean no one without an approved safety hat is allowed to enter the worksite.

When building above ground level there are strict regulations about the use of fences and safety barriers to prevent personal injuries.

Tools and engines not allowed being in use if the test certificates have expired, therefore three diggers and a dumper truck are not allowed to use until they have been properly tested.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It was discovered that three of the digging machines’ as well as one of the transporting trucks’ test certificates had expired.

Until they are inspected and approved by an authorized mechanic it is prohibited to have them in service.

It is crucial that fences and safety barriers of proper height are installed where the constructions are above ground level.

A safety helmet is compulsory not only for workers, but for anyone who enters the site.

To prevent injuries among the workers on the site we strongly recommend that they are provided with work wear modified for these surroundings, such as boots with toecaps and reinforced soles.

  10. A number of remarks about the working conditions at the building site in Kalmar have been made, stating that the routines of the company are not in line with the Swedish safety rules and regulations.

Firstly, the employees must be equipped with work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps to avoid possible injuries.

Furthermore, wearing approved safety helmets is compulsory for everyone at the building site and recommendations have been made about investing in helmets with built-in ear and face protection.

Finally, suitable safety barriers must be installed to avoid falling accidents, and three excavators and a dumper truck require authorised maintenance and renewal of the test certificates before use.

In conclusion, it is urgent to take action to improve the working conditions and therefore avoid threats of close-down.

An inspector from the Swedish Health and Safety Executive visited the construction site in Kalmar to inspect the project and to notify their regulations, which every construction site in the country is obligated to abide.

The inspector made a few notes about safety issues that should be seen to as soon as possible; it is remarked that every level above ground must have safety barriers and fences. Proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps are also required at a construction site, as well as hardhats for every person on the grounds, working or not.

The inspector informed that a few certificates of the vehicles in use have expired and are not allowed to be used again until the certificates have been renewed. He pointed out that the machines should also be checked by an authorised mechanic, as it would seem that there are some leaks in the hydraulic system in at least a couple of them.

  12. To maintain a safe work environment for the employees, there are certain safety regulations and laws in Sweden that needs to be followed; if not, the consequences are to close down the company.

In order to prevent the workers to get injured from heavy lifting and materials, the workers are required to wear proper boots and helmets. The helmets should preferable have ear protectors due to the noise that may occur and should be worn by everyone that are working or visiting the construction site.

To prevent fall injuries, it is obligated to install fences and safety barriers on all areas above ground level.

All equipments and machines, including the hydraulic systems, must immediately be checked by a test station and receive an approval before using them.

  13. The proper safety measures must be taken as per Swedish law.
All individuals that are located within the working area must wear a safety helmet at all times. Workers are required to wear work boots with toecaps and reinforced soles while on the site. The vehicles that are used must have current test certificates and be checked by an authorized mechanic.
Inability to follow these procedures will lead to all work on site being suspended.

  14. In Sweden we have regulations concerning the health and safety for construction workers that need to be followed in order for you to continue the construction work. Firstly there are concerns about the work wear due to that the workers are wearing trainers when they need to be wearing proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps. Further on, it’s compulsory for anyone being on the construction site to wear safety helmets preferably with ear protectors since objects can fall down from above and the noise level is high. To prevent fall injuries there needs to be fences and safety barriers on the construction site above ground level. Lastly, the test certificates of three diggers and one dumper truck have run out and you need to take them to the test station before you can continue using them since the certificate needs to be valid.

If these problems remain, we unfortunately must take severe measures.

Everyone entering the area, without any exception, must wear an approved safety helmet.

After checking the worker's test certificates, I affirmed that three diggers and a dumper truck's driver lacked valid certificates.

Due to the Swedish legislation you must follow the laws of the Swedish state, regardless the nationality of the company.

The consequences of dropping heavy materials on a foot that is not protected by proper work boots could be direful.

  16. Due to the visit from the Health and Safety Inspector we need to take immediate action to improve the working conditions on the building site otherwise we risk being closed down.
The Health and Safety Inspector informed us about a number of points where we are failing to meet the required standards according to Swedish law and regulations.
All workers are required to wear work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps due to all the heavy materials that they work with and have to carry.
Hardhats or helmets are compulsory on every building site, further due to the noise level and dust the helmets should preferably have built-in ear protection and mesh to cover the face.
Fences and safety barriers of the proper height, to minimize the risk of injuries, must surround all construction work above ground level.

  17. During the inspection from the Swedish Health and Safety Executive the Health and Safety Inspector informed us that every company working in Sweden must follow the Swedish law.

The Health and Safety Inspector told us that the law applies for all companies, regardless of the company’s origin.

Consequently, the workers on site need to follow the Swedish law; the Swedish Health and Safety Executive were threatening to close down the site if we don't follow the law.

The Swedish law has compulsory rules about work wear; the Health and Safety Inspector urged us to support the workers with proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps, as well as helmets with built-in ear protecting and a mesh to cover the face.

Finally, the Health and Safety Inspector pointed out to us that we need to use fences and safety barriers of proper height according to the Swedish law whenever we start to build above ground level.

  18. Sweden have legislations regarding work conditions and safety rules that you have to follow, if do not fulfil these requirements the workplace will be shut down by the government.

The employees need to be wearing appropriate work clothing, shoes with proper soles and toecaps, hardhats and noise cancelling ear-protectors.

When employees are working on a height it is compensatory to have safety fences and barriers.

When using machines at the plant, the machines need to have valid certificates and work properly, no leakage or danger for the employees to operate the machines.

If these conditions not are fulfilled there are valid reasons for shuting down the plant until the requirements are accomplished.

There are several things that need to be addressed in order for us to continue construction in Sweden, these are all apartments to the Swedish rules and regulations. The workers need to be supplied with proper work boots, with reinforced soles and toecaps, the gymnastic shoes they are currently wearing are not acceptable. They will also need an approved hard hat, preferably with ear muffs, since the sound level, though normal for a construction, is too high. Certain alterations will also be need to made to the construction site, safety barriers and fences at the regulated hight will have to be constructed at all working levels above ground level. Finally four of the machines (three diggers and a dumper truck) will need to be tested in order to receive new test certificates before they can be used again, it is also recommended that they be sent to an authorised mechanic since there is suspicion of a leakage.

From the inspection of Health and Safety Executive, we learned that the working condition of the construction site of exhibition center in Kalmar does not meet Swedish regulation and needs to be improved soon.

To prevent injuries, your employees must wear safety shoes that protect them from heavy materials that may drop on their foot.

A safety helmet has to be provided to every employee since it is compulsory to wear it; concerning the noise at the construction site, security ear cover or helmets with built-in ear muffs and a mesh to cover the face should also be given.

The heights of safety barriers and fences need to be installed and checked to meet the regulations of Health and Safety Executive.

Three diggers and a dumper truck whose test certificates have expired should not be used until they are properly tested by professionals.

  28. In Sweden there are certain rules and regulation when it comes to construction sites, and according to the observations of the Health and Safety Inspector, your construction site at the exhibition center in Kalmar needs several improvements in order follow the Swedish legal requirements.

In order to prevent injuries it is compulsory for everyone that is entering the construction site to wear hardhats, concerning the noise level a hardhat with build-in ear muffs would be a strong recommendation, the employees also needs to wear proper work boots with reinforced soles and toecaps.

There should be fences and safety barriers of the proper height everywhere you start building over ground level to prevent accidents, I attached a document of the regulations so improvements can be done immediately.

All equipment must have valid test certificates, the diggers and dumpers whose certificates has expired must not be used until it receives a new valid test certificate authorized by a professional, and it is strongly recommended that all vehicles gets cleared by a mechanic occasionally.

If these improvements are not done urgently there is a valid reason to shut down the constructions site until the requirements are accomplished.

Last week, the Health and Safety Inspector visited, and as a result of that visit we need to take immediate action on some of their remarks, otherwise we risk being closed down.

Firstly, in Sweden there are strict rules about compulsory work wear, where hardhats and proper work boots must be worn. The hardhats are recommended to also have built-in ear protectors to protect against loud noises on the constructing site and the work boots must have reinforced sole and toecaps.

Secondly, the construction site must be surrounded with fences and safety barriers, this to minimize the risk when building above ground level

Finally, the Health and Safety Inspector marked that three of the diggers and one of the dumpers had expired certificates and need to be approved by a professional test center before being used again.

The employees are walking with trainers on, which are not allowed because of that there are boards with nails in them in many places in the floor. Hardhats are compulsory workwear in Sweden, and we cannot allow anyone on the site that is not wearing one.

We have been told that we are required to have fences and safety barriers everywhere where we start building above ground level. We have to check our trucks by an authorised mechanic because they have not a test certificate, and they seem to have some leaks in the hydraulic systems.

Furthermore we are forced by law to have fences and safety barriers whenever constructions are made above ground level in order to make the work safe.

One of the most important things is that everyone who enters the work site wears hard hats, it´s not optional they are mandatory.

Everyone who is entering the building site is obligated to wear an approved safety helmet. Not only for the workers but also for everyone who enters the site.

It also emerged that three diggers and a dumper truck has been used without approved certificates. These need to be tested before being put back into use.

To avoid hearing damage in the future the workers need to wear ear protection.

Furthermore, there are rules about having fences and safety barriers while working above ground. The fences should be placed in proper height since the contractors are working at high levels.

  43. There has been a visit from the Swedish Health and Safety Inspector, who has established that on several areas there have been transcends of the restrictions and if these transcends are not managed forthwith, the authorities will exercise their right to close down the construction site.

The most urgent matter regards the construction workers, who must wear an essential work uniform, such as reinforced footwear and safety helmets, equipped with sound attenuators and a front piece.

Secondly there were remarks on the absence of safety barriers, which are required when construction work accrues above ground level as well as barriers surrounding the construction site.

There were as well remarks on a number of heavy machinery used on site, which are required to have valid inspection certificates. The Swedish regulations concerning the health and safety for workers on a construction site are very strict. If they aren't complied with, the authorities can enforce a closedown of the site.
Safety boots with reinforced soles and protective toecaps are to be worn on site by all workers to protect feet from falling objects.

Approved industrial safety helmets with built-in ear muffs and face protecting mesh are to be worn on site by workers and visitors for head and neck protection as well as noise reduction.

According to the Swedish regulations it is a must, when building above ground level, to have safety barriers of the proper height, nets, scaffolds and a soft landing system in place to minimize the risk of a fall.
By law, every employer is responsible for the proper inspection and maintenance of work equipment (which includes vehicles). In specific, three excavators and a dumper truck have expired certificates; these vehicles must be serviced by an authorized mechanic to meet manufacturers’ guidelines and recertified before being brought back into service.
